This book details the origin and racing history of the Ferrari 333 SP. Uniquely, none of the 333 SP models were entered into races by Ferrari itself. The cars were built specifically for customer use; a purchase price of $900,000 included two spare engines and race technical support supplied by Ferrari engineers. A total of 40 cars were built; the first four by Ferrari, the remainder manufactured by Dallara & Michellotto using Ferrari engines. All of the cars were sold to, and race entries made by, privateer teams.
From 1994, the cars contested the IMSA World Sports Car Championship, the United States Road Racing Championship, and the American Le Mans Series, at circuits throughout North America. In 1997, the cars also featured in the Europe-based International Sports Racing Series, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two years later, the Doran-Lista team installed a Judd V10 engine into its 333 SP, with the aim of increasing power and improving fuel efficiency.
In all, from the 126 races entered, 47 victories were claimed by the 333 SP.

About the Author
Born in Hertfordshire, Terry O'Neil has lived the majority of his life in the West Midlands. After working in sales and marketing for the Rootes Group and British Leyland, Terry has worked for himself, in Stourbridge, for the last 25 years. A committee member of the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain, and its archivist, Terry ventured into writing, with articles for Cavallino, Vintage Racecar Journal, Healey Marque and the Ferrari Club magazine. To date, Terry has five published books, and his enthusiasm for researching less well-known events culminated in books on the Bahamas Speed Weeks, SCCA/SAC races in America, and Northeast American sports car races in the 1950s.

Almost banal...
By Mike Fuller
Let me preface that I'm really hard to please. The book starts with a disappointingly thin section on how the car was conceived, and an even thinner section on the car's design and development/technical description, and the rest is a straight forward retelling of it's racing history. In my opinion there isn't much new here. Really this would be a 2 star review, but ending on a positive, I gave it 3 as it could be seen as a good primer to those unfamiliar with the depth and length of the Ferrari 333SP's career. That's probably enough for most.

If you want a history of the liveries and race results of different teams that used the 333, you'll be happy. If you wanted a indepth look at the technology, evolution, and creation of this car, you will be let down. I will reread the book, but I will be looking at the few chassis/motor shots and wishing for more. The pictures of these are available, pity they weren't included with descriptions. I give it 2 1/2 stars.
