Please get this book edited! It sounds like it might become a great story but the errors (Alton become Aton) (trail become trial). I will try again if it gets edited at least once (these errors were in the first few pages) !! Too distracting. Try again - Same page - (Jeffrey becomes Jeffery). Ugh. I'll slug on for a while longer.

Loved it!

I loved the first three books in the series. Alton and Mallory's relationship starts off based on friendship, then evolves into true love. What I really enjoyed was that they do not have sex but the relationship shows true love, regardless . Each of the three mysteries had me guessing, almost until the very end.

Poorly Written

FTCE's XAMonline study guide for elementary education k-6 gets two stars because at least it gives some information. However, the information is incomplete and it is very is poorly written. Its unorganized. It doesn't give the definition of key terms when the terms are introduced (refer to the topic of the first chapter "Emergent Literature"). Obviously, the writers agree a definition is needed because they do provide one, but not until 3 sections after they've introduced and discussed the key term. In addition, all discussion of the topic at hand is incomplete and disconnected at best. I understand the authors don't claim to teach the content but to simply provide a review, but at the very least the review could be readable. This company doesn't have its customer's best interest in mind and since they have a no known competition, we're forced to study from a less than quality source and take our chances passing this test.

Good Study Guide with some minor problems

This book is a great way to review for the exam. It has a lot of information, 400+ pages, to help you prepare for the test. It also has a lengthy practice test to help you as well. There are some things in here I would have never thought an elementary student would be learning so it helped me review the areas I needed help in, mainly math and science. My only main problem with this book is the spelling errors. I am not sure who edited or proofread this book but I would have thought that they would have used spell check at the very least. I have found spelling errors on 50% of the pages. I would recommend this book for anyone taking this test though.

Excellent

I recommend the guide very highly and without hesitation. After reading some other reviews of it I bought some other study guides as well, but all I did was waste money. The XAM guides certainly are the greatest. I have used them for 3 FTCE exams and I passed each one the first time around. I have been out of college for 23 years.

About the Author
J. Scott Hamilton, J.D., is an Assistant Professor of Management for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, serving as Faculty Chair for the Sky Harbor Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He previously served as chief operating officer of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), after serving as the national organization's general counsel. He is an experienced pilot (Private Pilot with airplane, single engine, land & sea, instrument airplane, advanced & instrument ground instructor ratings, and about 1,700 hours flight time) who has owned several aircraft. He is also an experienced skydiver (with 2,500 jumps) who served as a combat demolition specialist and HALO instructor in Army Special Forces.
 
Dr. Hamilton founded a law firm specializing in aviation law in Colorado, where he practiced law for 25 years and served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver, and as an Adjunct Instructor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and for the Aerospace Science Department at Metropolitan State College of Denver, then served as Senior Assistant Attorney General in Wyoming. He holds a B.A. degree in economics and business from Hendrix College; J.D. from the University of Denver; and LL.M. in aerospace law from Southern Methodist University, where he was named the Easterwood Foundation Scholar. He is currently a Master of Aeronautical Science candidate at Embry-Riddle, pursuing a management specialization.
 
Hamilton has published widely on aviation law, including the "Practical Aviation Law" textbook, workbook and teachers' manual, now in the 5th edition, and Amazon.com's bestseller in the category of "Air & Space." He has received many honors, including induction into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame (1988) and Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame (1998).

Sarah Nilsson is an Assistant Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a practicing attorney in Arizona, where her practice focuses on aviation/aerospace and business law. She previously managed an Aerospace Magnet program at an inner city high school in Phoenix. Nilsson gained extensive aviation operating experience working as a cargo pilot and flight instructor and now volunteers as a safety representative on the FAA Safety Team. Her research interests include aviation, space, and unmanned aerial systems law.

I was very happy to see the price of this book

Purchased for class. I was very happy to see the price of this book, as I expected $120+ for ANY required textbook.

After paying $120 for college math books that were shipped LOOSELEAF and required me to provide my own binder the great print and build quality of this book is MUCH appreciated. It's fantastic to get a BRAND NEW textbook that I actually get to keep at the end of the semester for a very reasonable price. The content seems up to date and I haven't noticed any grammer, spelling, print or other errors that other commercial educational publishers have been making in their books recently. After reading $120+ books from major publishers that CLEARLY had not been reviewed by an editor (or had ANY quality control whatsoever between revisions) this is a nice change.

The price and readability of this book was GREAT!!!

The price and readability of this book was GREAT!!! The author is a seasoned attorney/pilot and wrote the book for real people, not lawyers and CEOs. It has been really easy to read and the best part about it is that he gives you REAL advice! He even includes checklists and flowcharts to help describe and guide you through the confusing legal world. It has tons of great information from buying aircraft/insurance, protecting yourself from the FAA, and running an FBO. I don't know how it compares to other legal resources out there, but its good enough for Embry-Riddle's courses.

"The more we read of the book, the deeper it went. The author appears to have missed nothing; Paint codes, Appendix II; injection tune up, a full chapter; weak spots, how to spot and correct, in full color, chapter 5. Rocker switches, how to repair, page 136. Mechanical maintenance is given its own long and profusely illustrated chapter, written by someone who has been there and done that more than once. The author also provides great photos "... to give an idea of how functionally equivalent substitute tools can be fabricated ..." This is followed by 24 pages of factory tool drawings! Now that's the kind of information we like to read about!!! Just a cursory glance told us this was a very special book. Who was the Merlin that put all of this together? The photographs, though many are obvious home brewed, are excellent throughout no matter what the source. The author explains clearly the foibles of the V8, how to do everything from set the valve clearances to replace bad bearings in the timing cover. He does it all while covering Montreals made for Europe, Great Britain and the US. It was time to read the back flap.Author Bruce Taylor lives in Switzerland. He devotes a large part of his time helping Montreal owners get the most from their cars. The fact that he can write so to make others understand is an added pleasure. Don't be put off, or on, by the cover. It's a bit of a fooler; an attractive model with mesh stockings sits provocatively on the hood of a Montreal. We didn't mind this, but the complexities, depth, and sheer intensity of the material behind the cover is betrayed by the lightness of the cover material. In short, a detailed cutaway of the Alfa V8 engine would have been more in keeping with the book's depth and excellence. Alas, far less attractive. There are two downsides to this incredible book; one is the cost, about $130 US. The other is that if you buy the book without already owning a Montreal, you may be very tempted, encouraged and excited about going out and finding a good Montreal. "The whole book is very comprehensively illustrated with 950 color and monochrome pictures, the vast majority of which will be unfamiliar to UK readers. It is nice to see pictures of the interior of the prototype courtesy of Alfa Romeo and Bertone, pictures which fail to make most other books and articles. There are relatively few pictures of UK registered cars which may disappoint some of our own Register owners but I did spot a whole page devoted to the restoration of Phil Robinson's MFK 592P and a photo of the car elsewhere, taken at Goodwood by Ken Carrington. The Racing Chapter shows a black and white picture of Jon Dooley punishing the Alfa GB demonstrator at Silverstone and rare shots of the prototype Montreal-engined Alfetta GT which had an engine stretched to 3.0 liters, along with a 2.6-litre production engined version of which a handful were marketed in Germany. Interesting stuff. A really decent Montreal book has been a long time coming but not only is this one well worth the wait, it's in English. Perhaps the greatest compliment one can pay this book is that it may finally lay to rest the myth that the Montreal is a temperamental beast which is expensive and difficult to maintain. About the Author

Bruce Taylor is a Chartered Engineer with a PhD from Edinburgh University, and has 40 years of practical experience in research and development work. Since retiring from CERN (The European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland), he has devoted his experience and energy to helping owners of the Alfa Romeo Montreal get the most from their cars. In addition to a Montreal website, he runs a forum which has handled over 20,000 messages from Montreal owners. Bruce is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and also authored the Montreal technical bible "Alfa Romeo Montreal: The essential companion". He writes with clarity, enthusiasm and expert knowledge about all the major aspects of this elegant, powerful, and yet very affordable, classic GT. He lives in Chardonne, Switzerland.

EXCELLENT BOOK to have, if you own or like the metical Alfa Romeo Montreal. Definitively a 5-star. Lot of information about the engine mechanics, various diagrams and measurements, lots of pictures of the car, and history of the car. A MUST HAVE. The book, from what I see in June 2015, is being sold in USA and England.

About the Author
Donald S. Murray comes from Ness at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis and now lives in close proximity to "the Ness" at the southern end of Shetland. His poetry and prose are often about islands and the wildlife on and around them. The Gannet features strongly in his work, which includes The Guga Hunters, Praising the Guga, and The Guga Stone: Lies, Legends and Lunacies Of St Kinda, which was shortlisted as one of the Guardian's nature books of the year in 2013.

The Decline of a Truly Great Fishery

A really interesting account of the cultural and economic significance of the great herring fishery. As someone who was involved in the British fishing industry in the sixties there was much that I recognized, and was grateful for the elucidation of many aspects. A good description of a once-great fishery that went into almost total decline - partly due to overfishing, but also to a changing market.

I've sometimes wondered about Cinderella. How could she stay so sweet and cheerful when she gets nothing but abuse from her family? I think even the most good-natured person would become bitter and vindictive after a while. In this story, I wanted to show a more wounded side of Cinderella, the side that is hurting from being unloved. Love brings out the best in people, but hate brings out the worst.
So... about me: I live near Poughkeepsie, New York with my husband, three boys, and no pets. I have a hard time getting my boys to stop playing video games and read more books. My house is often a mess because I'm either out at my day job, or helping my kids with homework, or trying to squeeze in some writing and drawing. Yet I get frustrated when my house isn't clean. Other than strangers on the internet, I almost never tell anyone I know that I write books, because I have a weird insecurity that they won't take me seriously. But I never feel happier than when I'm working on my projects.

An Interesting Dark Story, but not Conclusive

I'm a bit conflicted about this story. On one hand, I love the changed perspective-- a Cinderella that isn't perfect and all good. But there's a reason that this story is usually so positive-- fairy tales need a moral at the end. The problem with this story, for me, was I didn't feel like there was a conclusion or a moral. Cinderella started off as not that bad. Perhaps a little bratty and bitter, but redemption was in view. Then... she got worse. Not really a fan of that plot. Fairy tales usually have a positive ending, because events happen that cause character development. For this "dark" story, it wasn't a moment that brought her into darkness and she pulled against it bravely. It was just a sort of "meh-- I'm pretty much a bad person". Cinderella had no real redemption or transition to evil. It's not a book that you finish and fell complete, or feel sympathy for poor misunderstood Cinderella. The conclusion is just that she's pretty much a bad egg, not particularly passionately evil, just casually meh. When you look at this book, it's probably best to consider the difference between a dark fairy tale (where there is a beginning, middle, and end of the character's darkness and you are left with a moral and a feeling of compassion), and a story with a dark fairy tale character (where the character is basically bad through and through).

SUMMARY: When Cinderella's dear father died, she was stuck with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Visited by her fairy godmother, she found that doing good deeds and behaving kindly earned her some white magic-- magic that gave her power to change her appearance, change animals to other animals, object to other objects. But Cinderella's heart festered with bitterness. She does good, but only with the end goal of evil. Her prize, the prince, may not be the easy and happy ending she searched for. The prince has his own darkness. And true darkness is not pleasant.

the not so best parts: I guess my main problem was Cinderella started out a bit vindictive and bitter. But in all honesty, she wasn't that bad. She even had moments of genuine kindness. I would have preferred to see development of her compassion, than see her slowly dissolve into bad habits. This truly is a negative story. There are a few pinnacle moments of badness, but they don't have the proper motivation to inspire compassion in the reader, or to make you think that there is possible compassion in the character. The result makes you think the character is shallow and very one dimensional.

the best parts: the magic is interesting, the step characters are realistic. The line between malicious but not ridiculous was perfectly toed with all step characters. The prince was a fresh surprise, well written, and it was interesting for Cinderella to basically see herself reflected in this faux-amazing man. A refreshing change of pace, and an interesting read.

All in all, the writing was good. The story was fleshed out, the characters sharp. A good novella. I just didn't like that this story didn't have a resolution or even real development of character. A novella shows, in my mind, important snipers of a story to bring a full picture. This felt like the beginning (of the end). The dark edginess might just not be my thing. For certain, I'm not eager to reread for a character that I just think will never change-- especially because she had so many opportunities for goodness-- and isn't particularly emotion provoking. If you're looking for something new and with a dark feel, this might be it for you. If you're looking for a dark fairy tale, or different fairy tale with a solid conclusion and moral-- this just doesn't have that structure. I liked reading this, and found it interesting food for thought-- but I didn't feel like I really wanted to see more of Cinderella. This just doesn't have THAT MOMENT-- the one where you cry for that transition to evil, or you cry cause you see the inner pain. This just felt like you wanted to shake Cinderella.

If you want to see a different Cinderella, this is your novella. If you want a full tale revolving around a dark Cinderella, where you see a clear ending and you feel sudden understanding and compassion towards an evil Cinderella, this isn't for you.
