PEARL BARRETT AND SERENE ALLISON are sisters who share a passion for healthy eating. My newest PRIZE!!!

Oh my goodness! I started Trim Healthy Mama, "way back when" - and have been following the principles laid out in the original book for 27 months. As a middle-aged (yes, I admit it) mama of four, with 3 decades spent overweight and then obese, having tried every "fad diet" out there; suffering hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and unable to even walk up a flight of stairs without wheezing... I was desperate, hopeless and utterly defeated. Skeptical, at very best, I purchased the original book and 'devoured" all 640 pages! WHEW!

I didn't find it confusing, just followed the steps and... at 43 years old, I feel better than I did in my early 20's. I easily lost 53 pounds, and have been able to maintain my newfound health with ease - while eating absolutely delicious meals and NEVER feeling deprived! I can hike, cross-country with a 40+ pound pack, and not only live to tell about it... I FEEL GOOD! I could go on and on, but you want to hear about THIS book!

Over the last couple years, I have spent countless (and I do mean COUNTLESS) hours on the THM facebook forums. Membership has literally exploded to well over 100,000 people, just in one group alone! This isn't just a "revision", this spells out the plan, while complimenting the previous book! The information contained here is definitely more concise, the layout is (in my opinion) much better; I can see this will be an easier read for many folks, and while it is more concise, it also contains updated information - making it my newest prize!

I will say that I thought I would be replacing my original with this one and the new recipe book... but I could never give up the book that brought me "here". I have me a "collection"... Oh yeah!

you'll feel better, if you're like me

I am a total believer. This plan helped me lose my weight, and I've been maintaining a 100-pound weight loss by eating this way. I eat cake almost every day. Eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, fruit, oatmeal....you don't give up fat or carbs. You just learn which foods are healthier and how to put foods together so they work to make your body lose weight. And, you'll feel better, if you're like me! No more fad diets for me (I tried about every diet there was for well over 20 years). Never. Again. Trim Healthy Mama is my way to be trim and healthy from here on out!

Life Changer!

I bought the first edition in February 2013, I was 230 pounds and only 5'2. I was desperate for change after 15 years (all of my teens, twenties and some thirties) being 115 pounds overweight. I had tried calorie counting, weight watchers, slim fast and diet pills. All of which had some weight loss but I gained all of it back every time.

Trim Healthy Mama taught me *how* to eat for the first time! I no longer was worried that if I did take off all of the weight it would just come back on because right from the beginning they explained how to maintain your weight loss. I was so thankful to not have to calorie count for the rest of my life too!

I initially lost 8-10 pounds per month, after the first 50 pounds I lost 4-5 pounds per month. I lost 90 pounds in 10 1/2 months. Then I became pregnant, had a healthy pregnancy with a 24 pound weight gain and gave birth to a perfect baby girl (all while continuing on the plan during and after pregnancy). I lost the baby weight in 4 months and then lost the additional 15 pounds I had left until I reached my goal. Then I maintained my weight loss for several months (nearly effortlessly) and became pregnant again. I just gave birth to my son (also wonderfully healthy) and had a 23 pound weight gain. I'm thankful to know that I will be able to lose it again and maintain!

This is why I love Trim Healthy Mama in a nutshell: It's easy, it works, it's enjoyable long term and it's healthy! It's now been over 3 years and there's no turning back for me!

I bought the new book at Christmas and have been reading it ever since. It so simply spells it all out. I was able to get through the basics of the plan in just 45 minutes, it was all laid out in the first few chapters! I love the meal and snack plans differentiated by specific circumstances. I love the information on superfoods and supplements. Many have been great additions to my diet and I never would have sought them out! Finally, the cookbook is wonderful. If it works for your finances it's a great addition too!

I prayed for years for a solution to my weight problem. God answered that prayer with Trim Healthy Mama!

Great book to get the blood flowing and it is hard to put the book down!

This book is very interesting and it grabs you and doesn’t let you go. It is about a girl named Madeline and an man she meets named Liam. This is a very good book with explicit sex scenes that are enough to make you blush and get some blood flowing, if you know what I mean. It is part of a four book series and the first book hooks you in and makes you want to read the whole series. It is a fairly easy read and the author writes pretty good. I would recommend this book to my friends and family (that are old enough to read this type of book). I would call it almost an erotic thriller…a good one at that. I don’t want to give away too much of the book because you have to learn about it as you read it!

As much as I like my cheesy "bossy rich guy gets hooked on plain ...

As much as I like my cheesy "bossy rich guy gets hooked on plain jane and eventually falls in love with her" I just could not get into this book. Iit is well written as far as spelling, grammar, and actually making some kind of sense as far as sentence structure goes but story line and character development are lacking. She is instantly all over him in her mind, he is a total jerk. He stalks. He is just creepy and while "sexy" is a lovely description I prefer more information on the physical and mental of the male leads in the books I read.

I feel the female lead is a complete moron and I have NO respect for her, she deals with this creepy jerk and still ends up banging him. I feel this says very negative things about her mental stability and in fact says worse things to the women reading the book about what could be acceptable behavior by the creeps out there in the world. While the vast majority of the reading audience will know this is NOT the normal and NOT ok there are some who will read this and think "oh so that is ok" because, like with the need of the most stupid warning labels that should be commonsense, there are people out there lacking said sense.

I also don't understand the gooey belly button thing, that gives me very gross mental images that hare highly unpleasant. I likely would not recommend this book to others and feel kind of weird to add it to my Goodreads reading challenge for this year. I would like to say that I did receive this product free or discounted in exchange for a real life experience, honest, and unbiased review. As testers, my family and I strive to give he best ans honest reviews of the products we test based on our own personal experiences to help other customers find what they need.

Loose ends galore

Most erotic novels take at least 2-3 chapters to get into the meat and potatoes (aka the sex scenes) of the book. This book wasted zero time getting straight to business, with almost no explanation of why the characters were suddenly banging each other. In fact, I'm honestly left baffled by how fast everything moved.

It seems to me that this book is a knock-off of 50 Shades of Grey, down to the mindless doe-eyed (and obviously brown haired) female lead character and the jerkish, insensitive sex addict she falls for. I wasn't exactly expecting it to be a perfect portrayal of how sexual relationships are in real life, but this is so extraordinarily out there and unrealistic that I started chuckling to myself everytime something crazy happened. Half a page in, she's already mentally sleeping with this guy (who shows her zero respect and doesn't seem to care about her until AFTER he's had his way with her?) and two pages in, they're hooked at the hip.

Not only that, but the hawkish way the main male acts is super creepy and bizarre. He stalks her at her workplace, talks loudly and explicitly about doing it with her in front of her coworkers, and magically seems to know exactly where her apartment is without her telling him. In any other real life scenario, this would be disturbing and warrant calling the police, but somehow it's okay because he's sexy. We don't even get an actual description of how this guy looks other than "very sexy". What color is his hair? What does he wear? Does he have straight teeth or crooked?

The only description of any person in here is the lead female, who does an incredibly stereotypical "mirror gaze" and has her looks described to us. Brown hair and green eyes. Super original. Look, I'm not saying I wanted 14 pages of description or anything, but apparently it only matters to the reader that the two of them are hooking up. I would even be okay with just nonstop wall-to-wall sex scenes if there weren't so many inexplicable loose ends just left hanging in the middle of the story. The author doesn't even explain how these two know each other beyond "they used to know each other in the past and now he's her boss". ??? That isn't an explanation. Why bother even putting that in if you're just going to ignore it until it matters?

I didn't exactly have high hopes for this book, but at the same time, basic storytelling measures should be taken when you're writing ANY book. The author seems to only care that they're having sex, which would be great if she didn't throw in unnecessary details that warrant explanations and then just ignored explaining it to us. We don't know anything about the characters beyond the fact that they want to have sex, and one of them is a rude, rich stalker. That's how most of these novels seem to go, and there's nothing remarkable about this one except maybe the redundancy of adjectives and verbs ("clenching" is used way more often than necessary).

Bottom line is, I think the author could have tried harder. She clearly knows how to write, but needs to review her work harder before publishing it.

WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
It’s a good book if you’re planning to use a shop to restore or customize your VW (or any car). I think it will help you to get your money’s worth and the ride you want.

WHAT THIS BOOK WON’T DO
It won’t save you money. It helped me to realize good car restoration and customization costs. I think this book will help me to avoid the people turning out overpriced, poor quality work.

I had been following AKK's work before I bought the book. I've seen its cars in person. AKK's body work and paint jobs are pristine!

Airkooled Kustoms, Hazel Green, Alabama, restores VWs (and early Porsches) to better-than-new condition. It also creates wild, custom VW projects. The book helped me to appreciate the steps and the philosophy AKK uses to turn out high quality cars.

PRACTICAL ADVICE
I liked the practical, a step-by-step approach to working with a shop on your restoration or customization project. The book outlines how AKK approaches the process with its customers. You get real-world examples of VW projects AKK has built. It helped me to see how I could get started on my “dream VW.”

Great read. The writer "Princess Patina" captures what is playfully referred to as the VDub "Dark side" in perfect detail. Having been to the shop in the book myself and having met both Princess Patina as well as the AirKooled Kustoms Krew I can honestly say the book is true to life. It's a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I've seen tabloids with less ads in them.

The first third of the book is ad space every other page. It's like I'm reading a buzzfeed article with adblock turned off. If you guys want to saturate your almanac with advertisements at least make it so they are at least removable. That being said, the information presented is nice, clear, and simple. There's a lot of good information towards the end I would five star this if I didn't have to wade trough so many ads.

Continues to Deliver Year After Year Since 1792!

This year, instead of getting an eBook on Kindle, I got the hardback like I used to a few years ago. Much, much better. The charts are readable and they are all over the place. Chunk full of useful information and folklore along with the sciences and fun filled trivia facts. There are a lot of advertising on these pages, but that doesn't bother me much. Only thing is the book has a little over 300 pages, so if one does not like the adverts, there is only 150-200 useful pages in here, all in a hardback for less than $15.00! It is a bargain, no matter how one slices and dices it. Numerous recipes, odd facts about the history of horse breeding, how tides impact fishing, how El Nino impacts the winter and starting on page 230, there is a story about "Typhoid Mary," the "Most Dangerous Woman in America."

I have mentioned the charts and how they are everywhere in this almanac. Starting on page 118 and going through to page 152, there is the monthly calendars with all the astronomical insights and astrological tidbits, weather folklore and things to look out for. The calendars start with November 2015 and go to December 2016. Starting on page 273 and going on to the end of the almanac are numerous reference charts and tables. Easy to use and understand. The Weather pages start at page 189 and goes for about 20 onward. All these are easy to find because the Almanac has black tabs on the edges of those pages, so just look to the pages and you will quickly find them.

I am so glad I got this in the hardback. For just a few dollars more, but this edition will last for a long, long time. I can lay the almanac down flat and the pages will stay flat -- they won't fall back on each other. The pages are also sewed and glued together, so this publication will be standing long after it's time is up. There is nothing that beats an almanac and the "Old Farmer's" is the cream of the crop!

It is nice to be part of an old Tradition here in North America. This one lasted for centuries and still continues to the unforeseeable future!

If you have the slightest interest in London or the Fire Services around the world, then you must have this book in your library. It is a superb accounting of events, happenings, tragedies and euphoria from the point of view of 1 Officer through his lifes work of loving his job and the people he worked with and those in the communities that he served.

Dave has done a wonderful job with his story-telling abilities and I am really transported back to those times when I served with him in the B Division and its characters. Might ask the wife to pop this book into my box when I go so that I can enjoy it some more.

Beautiful David, well done, a triumph and a great read.!!!!

About the Author
When I was preparing to attend college as a High School student, I had no idea how to pay for it. I assumed that somehow if I applied for financial aid then my tuition would be taken care of. When I finally graduated, my tab was a whopping $36,000. Now at the time, my first job out of college was around $20,000 a year, which was consumed by living expenses. However, in spite of my insufficient income, lo and behold, I discovered a bill asking for $300 a month to start paying for the college education that was intended to make me more money after graduation. I simply could not afford it with all my other bills for rent, car, and food. I applied for financial hardship in order to defer repaying the loans. Two years later I volunteered for a Non-Profit called Mentoring Student Athletes that helped High School students pass the ACT and SAT tests. It was there that I learned from the director of MSA, Jeff Tarver, scoring well on the ACT or SAT, then earning a high accumulative GPA in High School would earn students money that they did not have to pay back. I kicked myself for not knowing this or not caring when I was in High School. In 2013 I took what I learned from MSA and started Be Your Dreams, LLC to help High School students do what I didn't do; excel at being a great student so that you literally attract colleges that want to pay you to attend their school. That is what I teach today, that High School is a job that you get paid tens of thousands of dollars to do well. You just have to wait Four Years to get the check; but it's well worth it. This book is for readers with some background in science, concerning the search for drugs, starting from molecular diversity in nature or molecular wilderness. The mechanisms of action of drugs can be discerned by studying target–drug interactions. Nature may fight back, as in cases when microorganisms become resistant to drugs, but we can again use the chemistry–biology interface to obtain drugs which overcome the resistance. The battle goes on, hopefully with victory for both humans and balance of nature.

This book differs from those available on the subject of natural products and drugs derived therefrom in that it looks at the broad picture on how materials and organisms from nature affect our health and how we have combined our knowledge in chemistry, biology, and biodiversity to promote our wellness from resources in the "molecular wilderness," with caveats on sustainable utilization of these resources. "Writing a popular science book is more challenging than writing a professional one for the technical audience. One needs to be scientifically rigorous, yet speak in the language of the school student and the ‘lay’ public. There can be no threatening equations or complex chemical pathways, yet one should convey the message in a lucid manner. Professor Yuthavong carries it off with ease and elan. He has chosen the word "wilderness" deliberately, to evoke both excitement and awe in the reader. He shows how human creativity is able to chisel molecules from wilderness into useful products, how nature itself has been doing such molecular architecture over evolution, and how we may learn from it. The underlying message, expressed with time honored wisdom, is Gandhian in spirit. About the Author

Prof. Yongyuth Yuthavong is senior research fellow at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand. While working at Mahidol University, Thailand, he was given the "Outstanding Scientist of Thailand" Award (1984) for his research on malaria biochemistry. In 2004, he received the Nikkei Asia Prize for Science, Technology and Innovation from Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc., Japan, for his work on antimalarial drug targets. He is a former Minister of Science and Technology of Thailand (2006–2008) and was the first president of NSTDA (1992–1998). He is now involved in the development of drugs against drug-resistant malaria as well as policy issues for science and technology, and education in general. He has special interest in introducing science and technology to young people.

Good read

I am halfway through this interesting read, and thoroughly enjoying it. I like the way it spans conventional wisdom and modern scientific knowledge, and demystifies concepts like drug targets, enzyme inhibitors, bio-molecules etc. I think this book would make a great gift for a bright school-going child, or for older non-scientists who wants to learn how scientific research is informed by the nature around us.
